About the project

The 1.1-kilometre Spring Road is the access road to Goretti Girls Secondary School in Ikot Ekpene urban, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area. The project covered the road, an outfall drain and a bridge over a drainage channel.

The road had been in very poor shape for years. The bridge leading to the school collapsed more than seven years before the new works, and the road itself failed about four years before. Some parents withdrew their daughters from the school, which is the only all-girls public college in Ikot Ekpene.

Governor Pastor Umo Eno flagged off the project on August 23, 2023 and awarded it to an indigenous contractor, U&K Limited. The road is now paved, with road markings, and the outfall drain carries storm water away from the road and the school.

Governor Eno inaugurated the road in October 2024. It is meant to restore safe access for students, staff and parents and to help the school grow again. The project reflects the ARISE Agenda's support for education and for local contractors.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

The road gives students and staff a paved route to the school in all seasons. The outfall drain is meant to take water off the road and away from the school compound.

For work and income

A paved street with a working drain can lower repair costs for vehicles and for properties beside the road. It also makes it easier for transport operators and small traders to reach this part of the town.
