About the project

The construction of the 2-kilometre Ikot Uso - Udo Atan - Nto Obodem - Mbiaso Road is a rural access road project in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area. It links the communities of Ikot Uso, Udo Atan, Nto Obodem and Mbiaso.

The project is funded by the Akwa Ibom State Government. The State Executive Council approved it on 19 November 2024 as one award together with the 2.7km Nto Obio Akpan - Ikot Obong - Urua Akpan Road in Essien Udim Local Government Area. The 2026 state budget sets aside N800 million for the two roads together. Work was listed as ongoing in April 2025. The contractor has not been named publicly.

When complete, the road is meant to give these communities an all-season link to each other and to the wider road network around Mbiaso. Farmers should find it easier to move produce to markets in Ikot Ekpene town, and residents should reach schools, churches and health centres with less difficulty.

The road adds to other state road work in the Mbiaso area, including the Amanyam community roads. It is part of the ARISE Agenda aim of opening up rural communities and is expected to support trade and farming in the area. It has not yet been commissioned.
