About the project

The Mbiaso Model Primary Health Centre is a new health facility at Mbiaso in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area. It is expected to serve more than 25 villages across Ikot Ekpene and Obot Akara Local Government Areas.

The centre is a single-storey building with a perimeter fence. The land was provided by the Methodist Church Nigeria. An ambulance donated by the member representing the area in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Jerry Otu, serves the centre, and doctors and nurses have been deployed there.

The centre offers care from immunisation and male circumcision to treatment for malaria and pneumonia, care in pregnancy and emergencies. It is meant to cut avoidable deaths of mothers and babies and to care for the elderly and pregnant women. The name Mbiaso means "doctors" or "health workers" in Ibibio.

Governor Pastor Umo Eno commissioned the centre, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ubong Umo Essien.
