About the project

The ARISE Compassionate Homes in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area are free houses built for the poorest and most vulnerable residents in their own villages. They are part of a statewide scheme started by Governor Pastor Umo Eno.

There are 12 homes in Ikot Ekpene. Nine have been completed and three are still under construction.

Each home is a two-bedroom house, handed over furnished, with solar lighting, a solar-powered borehole and an outside kitchen. Beneficiaries are chosen at ward level from among people living in the worst conditions in their communities. Each beneficiary also receives a grant of 500,000 naira to start a small business.

A commissioning event has been held at one of the finished homes. The homes are meant to give homeless and elderly residents safe shelter, clean water and a fresh start, in line with the ARISE Agenda's care for the vulnerable.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

The homes give safe shelter to people who could not provide it for themselves. The houses are spread across villages, so those housed stay within their own communities.

For work and income

A finished and furnished house removes the cost of rent and repairs for the household. Building work in the villages can also give some work to local artisans and suppliers.
