About the project

This record covers two bridges on the Mkpat Enin to Ikot Abasi corridor, along the same route as the 10.519-kilometre Mkpat Enin - Ikot Ubo - Ikot Ntot - Nkikara Road. That road runs through Mkpat Enin and Ikot Abasi Local Government Areas and was commissioned by Governor Umo Eno in November 2024.

The bridges are meant to replace old wooden crossings that collapse in the rainy season and cut communities off from each other.

They are expected to help pupils cross safely to school, women reach markets and clinics, and farmers and traders move their goods. Motorcycle and vehicle operators are also expected to benefit.

The bridges are part of the wider effort under the ARISE Agenda to open up rural communities and link them to roads, markets and services.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

The bridges are meant to keep villages connected in every season. River overflow is linked to lower school attendance in the rains, and safe crossings are expected to help pupils and women most.

For work and income

A road is only as useful as its crossings. Permanent bridges are intended to let vehicles carry produce through the corridor all year, where wooden bridges once failed in the rains.
