About the project

The Mkpat Enin-Ikot Ubo-Ikot Ntot-Nkikara Road is a 10.519km road in Mkpat Enin and Ikot Abasi Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State. It runs from Mkpat Enin through Ikot Ubo and Ikot Ntot to Nkikara.

The Akwa Ibom State Executive Council approved the road in August 2021, under the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel. It was awarded to Gitto Construction Company with an 18-month completion period. The administration of Governor Umo Eno took over the project and carried on the work.

The old route was an untarred laterite road with gullies, which cars avoided. The new road gives farmers, traders and students in these communities a paved route to Mkpat Enin, Ikot Abasi and beyond.

It is expected to cut travel time, lower transport costs and open up the corridor for trade and new homes, in line with the rural development goals of the ARISE Agenda.

Governor Umo Eno commissioned the road on Wednesday, 6 November 2024.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

Without a working road, children struggle to reach school safely. This road is meant to give the villages on the corridor a route that stays usable, including for trips to the hospital in an emergency.

For work and income

A road lets farmers get produce to market and fishers move their catch. Traders in palm oil, cassava and fish are expected to move more goods, with less lost after harvest, once the road is tarred.
