About the project
The Regina Coeli East-West Road is a 2.5km road at Essene in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. Its name points to Regina Coeli College in Essene and to the East-West Road, the federal highway that passes through Ikot Abasi.
The road is being built by the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Pastor Umo Eno. It is one of the roads the state is delivering through direct labour and intervention projects, and it was listed among those under construction in June 2025. The 2026 state budget provides N400 million for it through the Ministry of Works and Fire Service.
A better road is expected to ease movement for residents, students and traders in Essene.
It is expected to give Essene a durable all-season link to the East-West Road and to Onna, Eket and other parts of the state.
