For families and communities
People who once had to go to the General Hospital in Ikot Abasi for simple care can now be seen nearer home. Women register for antenatal care and deliver at the centre, and it also serves as a first aid point.

A model health centre, now completed. It serves residents who previously travelled far for basic care.

The Model Primary Health Centre at Ikot Ubo is a new primary health care facility in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area. Ikot Ubo is also spelt Ikot Uboh. The centre serves Ikot Ubo and nearby communities, including Ikot Ntot and Nkikara, and people on the Mkpat Enin side of the area.
The Akwa Ibom State Government built the centre under the ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno. It is one of the model primary health centres the state is building to bring basic care closer to rural communities. The project is completed and open.
The building has a delivery room fitted with delivery beds and a baby warmer, and a ward with new hospital beds. It provides primary health care, antenatal and delivery care. Before it opened, many residents had to travel to the General Hospital in Ikot Abasi for simple treatment.
The centre is expected to cut travel time and cost for patients, help pregnant women and children get care early, and ease pressure on the General Hospital. It is also meant to create jobs for health workers and support staff in the community.
Governor Umo Eno commissioned the centre on 2 September 2026, as part of the activities marking the 39th anniversary of Akwa Ibom State. He was represented by the former Deputy Governor of the State, Obong Nsima Ekere. The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Patrick Eshiet, urged the people to take ownership of the facility, its equipment and staff.

The centre has cut what patients spend on travel to reach care. The health and support jobs at the centre went to people from the host communities.
