The Model Health Centre at Abiakana is a primary health centre in Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. Governor Umo Eno commissioned it in September 2025.
The centre has a main building, a second block and a reception area. Efforts have been made to provide it with equipment and staff.
The centre brings essential health services closer to rural communities in Ika. It is expected to improve primary care, strengthen care for mothers and children, and allow early treatment of common illnesses before they become serious.
It is also expected to reduce pressure on the Cottage Hospital at Urua Inyang, so that people only need to travel there for more serious cases. The project is part of the health goals of the ARISE Agenda, under which the Governor has promised a model primary health centre in every local government area.

The centre matters most for vulnerable residents who would otherwise travel long distances to see a health worker.
The centre helps reduce the health care burden on poorer families. Care close to home means less money spent on transport, and early treatment helps people get back to their farms and trade sooner.
