About the project

This is a model primary healthcare centre at Ikot Nkwo in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area.

The Akwa Ibom State Government funded the centre. Governor Eno directed work to begin in August 2023, after the Ikot Nkwo community gave land for it. He later directed that N50 million be paid to the community as compensation for the land.

The centre has consulting rooms, an operating theatre, wards, a laboratory, an ICT and records unit, and a kitchen and dining room. It has quarters for doctors, matrons and nurses, and runs on solar power with a standby generator. It was supplied with 214 items of medical equipment and consumables.

Governor Eno commissioned the centre on 17 May 2024, during activities marking his first year in office. He also approved the hiring of 200 more health workers for primary health care.

The centre is expected to give people in Ikot Nkwo and nearby villages quality basic care close to home, including care for mothers and newborn babies.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

The centre is meant to give people in and around Ikot Nkwo basic health care close to home. The ward beds and infant warmer point to care for mothers and newborns.

For work and income

Care close to home can save families the transport cost of going elsewhere for basic treatment. Solar panels can help the centre keep power on.
