About the project

The Ikot Obio Offong to Nung Ukana to Ene Nsit road is a 13.6-kilometre rural road. It runs through Ikot Obio Offong, Nung Ukana and Ene Nsit and on to Afaha Udo Eyop and Afaha Offiong. It runs from Ibesikpo Asutan into the neighbouring Nsit area. The road is paved and has a junction and a new roundabout.

The road was built by the Akwa Ibom State Government, with JMK Construction Co. Ltd as contractor. It was completed and commissioned on Thursday, 7 November 2024. The Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, was represented by the Deputy Governor, Senator (Dr) Akon Eyakenyi.

The road is meant to improve access to farmland and markets and to shorten travel time to Uyo and other parts of the state.

At the commissioning, the contractor also handed over school buildings as part of its support to the host communities. These were a block of five classrooms with offices, a borehole and toilets at Community Secondary School, Nung Idem, and a renovated four-classroom block, a rebuilt assembly hall, a borehole and toilets at Lutheran School, Nung Ukana.

The project fits the ARISE Agenda's push to open up rural communities.
