About the project

The ARISE Compassionate Homes scheme builds free homes for poor and vulnerable people across Akwa Ibom State. Etinan Local Government Area has 10 of these homes, spread across 10 of its 11 wards. Locations include Ikot Akpabio, Etinan Urban, Efa, Ikot Akata, Mbioto Ekpere Ituen, Iwotor, Ekom Iman, Nkana and Afaha Iman.

Each home is a two-bedroom bungalow, fully furnished, with an external kitchen, solar power and a water supply. Beneficiaries are chosen on merit and need. Along with the house documents, each beneficiary receives a N500,000 business support grant, and the state government pays for medical tests and treatment for them.

The home at Ikot Akpabio was handed over on 5 July 2024 by Governor Pastor Umo Eno, represented by the Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ini Ememobong. The Etinan transition council chairman added household items for the family.

The scheme is meant to give dignity and security to people who could not afford a decent home. It is one of the main social welfare projects of the ARISE Agenda.
