About the project

The Model Primary Health Centre at Midim Atan is a new health facility being built in Ekpenyong clan, Essien Udim Local Government Area. It is the one model health centre in Essien Udim.

The centre is being built by the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Umo Eno's plan to give every local government area at least one model primary health centre, in the same way as the model primary schools. Work is ongoing. The buildings are not yet finished, and a water tank on a stand is already in place on the site. The contractor has not been named publicly.

When finished, the centre is meant to give people in Midim Atan and nearby villages basic health care close to home, including care for mothers and children, without long trips to Ikot Ekpene or Uyo.

The centre is expected to improve health care in rural Essien Udim and ease pressure on bigger hospitals. It fits the ARISE Agenda focus on health care for rural people. It has not yet been commissioned.

When it opens, the centre is meant to give people in Midim Atan and nearby villages basic care close to home. The road to Midim was very difficult in the past, so a clinic inside the community matters for people who could not easily travel out.
