About the project

The ARISE Compassionate Homes scheme provides free houses for elderly and vulnerable residents who lack decent housing. In Eastern Obolo Local Government Area, 8 homes have been built, completed and handed over to their owners.

The finished homes are at Amadaka, Iko Town, Okoroiti, Okoroete, Okoroinyong, Kampa, Atabrikang and Elile. One more home is under construction and nearing completion, and two more are expected. When all are delivered, each of the LGA's ten wards will have one home.

The homes are built and paid for by the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Umo Eno. Each is built in the beneficiary's own community. Across the state, the homes come furnished, with solar power, and beneficiaries also receive a cash grant to start a small business.

The homes are meant to give vulnerable families in Eastern Obolo's coastal communities a safe and dignified place to live. The scheme is the flagship humanitarian programme of the ARISE Agenda.
