About the project

This project is the dualisation of a 7.868-kilometre section of Ring Road III (Idongesit Nkanga Avenue), from Idoro Road to Ikot Ekpene Road. It links Uyo with Ibiono Ibom, and the wider alignment runs on to Itak in Ikono Local Government Area. Hensek Integrated Services is the contractor.

The Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Pastor Umo Eno is delivering the work. The contract period is 30 months, but the contractor committed to finishing much sooner. By July 2025 the project was about 65 per cent complete, with drains nearly done and earthworks over 75 per cent complete.

The road is designed as an alternative to the busy Uyo to Ikot Ekpene Road, so that traffic can move around the edge of the city instead of through the centre. Ring Road III also serves new estates such as Grace Estate and the Judiciary Village.

The road was listed among the projects lined up for commissioning by President Bola Tinubu during the state's 39th anniversary in September 2026. It is expected to ease congestion, cut travel time and open up land for housing and business, in line with the ARISE Agenda.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

The road is meant to give communities on this side of the city a direct link to two main roads. It can also take through traffic away from busy streets in the centre.

For work and income

Linking Idoro Road and Ikot Ekpene Road can shorten trips for goods vehicles and buses. New road access also tends to open land along the route for homes and businesses.
