About the project

The construction of the 12.5-kilometre Nung Ukim - Afaha Obio Enwang - Nung Udoe - Itak Road is a strategic infrastructure project linking communities in Uyo and Ikono Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State.

The project is designed to address years of transportation challenges caused by the previous deplorable condition of the road, which limited mobility, slowed economic activities, and affected access to essential services for residents within the corridor.

Awarded through the Ministry of Works and Fire Service and executed by Verini Construction Company Limited, the road will feature an 8-metre wide carriageway, 25 kilometres of side drains, reinforced culverts, and properly constructed outfall drains to ensure durability and effective flood management.

The pavement structure will consist of a 150mm sub-base, 150mm stone base, and a 50mm asphalt wearing course, built to approved engineering standards.

Upon completion, the project will enhance rural-urban connectivity, improve the movement of agricultural produce, strengthen security access, stimulate trade and investment, and integrate underserved communities into the broader state road network.

The project was officially flagged off by the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, marking the commencement of construction works.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

Connects underserved rural communities in Uyo and Ikono LGAs to the state capital, significantly improving access to healthcare, education, and social services. It bridges the rural-urban divide, ending years of isolation and mobility challenges for residents of Nung Ukim, Afaha Obio Enwang, and Itak while enhancing security response times.

For work and income

Unlocks a critical agricultural corridor, reducing post-harvest losses by enabling faster transport of farm produce to urban markets. The project is expected to stimulate trade, attract new commercial investments along the route, and increase real estate values by solving the transportation deficit that previously stifled economic activity.
