For families and communities
The drain is meant to keep storm water off the road and out of nearby compounds. That can make the street safer and cleaner in the rainy season.
I'm proud to share that work on Itu-Urua Ekpa Road with discharge drain in Uyo LGA is finished. A 2.07 km road with a 1.4 km discharge drain.

The Itu to Urua Ekpa Road is a 2.07-kilometre road on the Itu Road and Urua Ekpa axis, in Itu and Uyo Local Government Areas, at the edge of the state capital. It was built with a 1.4-kilometre underground discharge drain.
For years the road was almost abandoned to flooding and erosion. Some parts were so bad that motorists struggled to pass, and heavy rain left sections under water.
The Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Pastor Umo Eno reconstructed the road and added the underground drain to carry storm water away and protect the road.
The road was commissioned on 20 September 2026 as one of the 39 projects marking the state's 39th anniversary. It is expected to ease movement in this growing part of the capital and end the flooding that cut off the area in the rainy season.

A road that drains well lasts longer and costs less to maintain. Businesses on the route are less likely to lose trading days to flooding.
