About the project
Ibom Plaza, also called Uyo Plaza, is a public square and leisure park in the centre of Uyo. It was built under former Governor Victor Attah between 1999 and 2007 but had fallen into neglect and lost its appeal.
The Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Pastor Umo Eno began a full rehabilitation of the plaza in late 2025. The Governor inspected the work in December 2025 and directed the contractors to finish in time for the festive season. The work restored the amphitheatre, the relaxation spots and the large screen used for films and football matches.
Governor Eno reopened the remodelled plaza on 23 December 2025. The Uyo Capital City Development Authority provides security and management for the site, and the Governor announced plans to further beautify and expand its facilities.
The plaza is meant to give residents and visitors a safe and attractive place to relax in the city centre, and to support tourism and urban renewal under the ARISE Agenda.
