About the project

The 20,000-capacity amphitheatre is an open-air events venue at Unity Park, the home of the Akwa Ibom Christmas Village, on Udo Udoma Avenue in Uyo. It is one of the tourism and recreation projects of the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Pastor Umo Eno.

The Governor approved the venue at an executive retreat, when the site was still undeveloped land. It was built in about two months by Hensek Integrated Services, with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism leading the organising work. It first hosted the 16th edition of the Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols in December 2023.

The amphitheatre gives the state a large outdoor venue for concerts, carols, festivals and public events. It also serves the yearly Christmas Village, and has hosted state events such as the presentation of ARISE empowerment grants.

It is meant to draw visitors to Uyo, support local artists and traders, and grow the tourism economy under the ARISE Agenda.
