About the project

The Etim Umanah Street ravine control project reclaimed a deep gully in the Ewet Offot community of Uyo. The gully had swallowed parts of Etim Umanah Street and Udo Inwang Street, and the Udo Inwang junction with Etim Okon Usanga Street had collapsed.

The Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Pastor Umo Eno awarded the work to Bulletin Construction Company Limited. The contractor stabilised the ravine between Uyo and Ewet villages, channelled the flood water and made the collapsed streets passable again. By March 2024, areas that had been cut off for years were open to traffic, and the contractor offered a fifty-year guarantee on the work.

The Governor later extended the scope of the job to protect the nearby Uyo custodial centre from the advancing gully.

The reclaimed land, about 73 hectares, was then turned into the ARISE Palm Resort. The project is meant to protect homes and land in an erosion-prone part of the capital and put waste land to use, in line with the ARISE Agenda.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

A ravine close to homes is a danger to families, especially in the rains. Control works are meant to stop it from spreading and make the street safer.

For work and income

Stopping the ravine protects houses, land and the street itself from loss. It also spares owners the cost of damage that erosion would cause.
