For families and communities
Flooding at an estate entrance can cut residents off from their homes. The flood-control work is meant to keep the entrance open in heavy rain.
I'm glad to share that work on Additional Shelter Afrique roads and flood control in Uyo LGA is under way. Nine kilometres of further roads in Shelter Afrique, together with a flood-control intervention at the estate entrance.

This project covers about nine kilometres of additional roads in Shelter Afrique Estate, Uyo, together with a flood-control intervention at the entrance to the estate. It is separate from the three estate roads that have already been commissioned.
Shelter Afrique is one of the larger residential districts of the state capital. It has been one of the areas worst hit by flooding in Uyo, and drainage works were started there to check the problem.
The state policy under Governor Pastor Umo Eno is that every road built or rebuilt in Uyo comes with drains on both sides linked to the nearest outfall. The new roads and the flood works at the estate entrance are meant to follow that approach.
When complete, the works are expected to give residents better access to their homes, protect land and property from flood and erosion, and improve living conditions in the estate, in line with the ARISE Agenda.

More paved roads extend access to more homes in the estate. Controlling flood water protects property and the roads already built there.
