About the project
This ARISE Compassionate Home is a two-bedroom bungalow at Ikot Esenam in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. It was built and furnished by the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Umo Eno.
The house is solar-powered and fully furnished. It was handed over to two widows from the community, who had been living in a collapsed thatch house. They also received the documents of ownership and a cash donation of N500,000.
The home was commissioned on 1 July 2025. Governor Eno was represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Ekerette Ekanem. The Oruk Anam council chairman, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sunday Festus Akpan, inspected the house the day before the ceremony.
The ARISE Compassionate Homes programme builds decent homes for vulnerable people in communities across the state. This house is one of 10 compassionate homes in Oruk Anam. It is meant to give the two women a safe and dignified place to live, in line with the social welfare pillar of the ARISE Agenda.
