About the project

The Ukpana-Akpabom-Ikwe Road is a road of about 7 kilometres through Ukpana, Akpabom and Ikwe, with a bridge of 30-metre span. Ukpana, Akpabom and Ikwe are villages of the Oniong clan. The road serves communities in Onna and Mkpat Enin Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State.

The road was built by the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Pastor Umo Eno. It is one of the new projects of his administration.

In October 2024 the Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga, named it among roads the Governor would inaugurate soon. By June 2025 it was listed among the road projects completed and commissioned under the administration. The exact commissioning date has not been published.

The road and bridge give the Oniong villages an all-season link to each other and to neighbouring Mkpat Enin. It is expected to make it easier for farmers to move produce and for families to reach schools, markets and health centres.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

A bridge on this route is meant to give the three communities a safe crossing in all seasons, which helps children get to school and sick people get to care.

For work and income

A road with a bridge can let vehicles carry goods where a water crossing would otherwise stop them.
