For families and communities
Walkways and street lights are meant to make the road safer for people on foot, including at night. The road is also meant to make the council secretariat easier to reach.
I'm glad to share that work on Ikwe-Odio Road in Onna LGA is under way. A 7.46 kilometre road with 1.5 metre walkways, outfall drains and solar street lighting.

The Ikwe-Odio Road is a 7.46-kilometre road between Ikwe and Odio, running through Onna and Eket Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State. It was approved as a 7.6-kilometre project.
The Akwa Ibom State Executive Council, chaired by Governor Pastor Umo Eno, approved the road on 2 April 2026. It was one of 27 road projects covering more than 167 kilometres approved at that meeting. The contract was awarded to Orenburg Construction Limited. By late April 2026 the site had been cleared and equipment was on site. Work is ongoing.
The design includes 1.5-metre walkways on the sides, outfall drains to carry storm water away and solar street lights.
The Ikwe-Odio stretch was first part of the longer Ndon Eyo-Ikot Akpatek-Ikwe-Odio road started under the previous administration, where work stalled for years. At the same meeting, the State Government approved the dualisation of the 7.64-kilometre Ndon Eyo-Ikot Akpatek section, awarded to Eighteenth Engineering Limited. Together the two contracts are meant to restore the full route.
When complete, the road is expected to give communities in Onna a direct link to Eket and its markets, make walking safer and light up the route at night. It fits the Infrastructure and Rural Development pillars of the ARISE Agenda.

The road is meant to link Onna with Eket, a larger trading area next door. That can help traders and transporters move goods between the two.
