About the project

The Ndon Eyo-Ikot Akpatek Road is a 7.64-kilometre road from Ndon Eyo to Ikot Akpatek in Onna Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The route has two bridges.

The road was first started under the previous administration as part of the longer 15.1-kilometre Ndon Eyo-Ikot Akpatek-Ikwe-Odio road, handled by VKS Construction. Work stalled for years, leaving communities along the route with poor access.

On 2 April 2026 the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council, chaired by Governor Pastor Umo Eno, approved the dualisation of the 7.64-kilometre Ndon Eyo-Ikot Akpatek stretch and awarded it to Eighteenth Engineering Limited. It was one of 27 road projects covering more than 167 kilometres approved that day. The 7.6-kilometre Ikwe-Odio section, with outfall drains and solar street lights, was awarded at the same time to Orenburg Construction Limited. Work is ongoing.

Once complete, the dual road is meant to reconnect communities that have had poor access, including people in the riverine area, and give them a faster route to Abat, Eket and the rest of the State. It is expected to ease the movement of farm produce to markets. The project reflects the ARISE Agenda's promise to complete abandoned roads and open up rural areas.
