About the project

The Water of Life project in Nsit Ibom is meant to bring clean, safe drinking water to all 11 wards of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area. It is run by the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA), the social programme founded by the late First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Patience Umo Eno.

In February 2026, Governor Umo Eno directed the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation and the Akwa Ibom State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (AKRUWATSAN) to work with GIFA so that every ward has a GIFA water project within one year. The project is now in the planning and rollout stage for the remaining wards of Nsit Ibom.

Nsit Ibom already has one Water of Life facility, at Ekpene Ikpan. It was one of the first three Water of Life projects in the state. The site has a tall steel tower carrying eight water storage tanks, which supply water to the community.

Each ward facility is meant to give families a nearby source of clean water, cut the long walks to fetch water and lower the risk of water-borne illness. The project is meant to support the ARISE Agenda by bringing basic services to rural communities.

The Ekpene Ikpan facility was inaugurated on Friday, 21 February 2025 by Lady Helen Eno Obareki, Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, represented by Hon. Itorobong Etim, member representing Uruan State Constituency in the State House of Assembly.
