About the project
The Ogu-Itu Mbonuso water scheme is a solar powered water project in Ini Local Government Area. It has a borehole, a treatment plant and a pipe network that supplies six villages in Ogu-Itu Mbonuso.
The scheme was built by the Akwa Ibom State Government. It was commissioned by Governor Pastor Umo Eno on Wednesday, 13 November 2024.
The borehole is 620 feet deep. Water is stored in an overhead tank of 36,000 gallons. A treatment plant filters the water and adjusts its pH. The pump carries a 25-year guarantee, and the solar power system keeps the scheme running without a break. Two personal assistants to the Governor on works were named to oversee maintenance of the water infrastructure.
The scheme is meant to give the villages a safe and steady supply of water for drinking and daily use. The commissioning was part of the ARISE Agenda's push to bring basic services to rural communities.
