About the project

This is a solar-powered water facility at Ikot Iyire Akama in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. It has an elevated water tank and standpipe taps where residents fetch water.

The facility was provided by the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Pastor Umo Eno, through the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation. The state delivers such projects with the Akwa Ibom Rural Water and Sanitation Agency and partners such as the Golden Initiative For All.

In October 2026 the Commissioner for Water Resources and Sanitation, Hon. Ubuo Effiong Ubuo, said the facility at Ikot Iyire Akama was among water projects in more than 12 communities that had been completed and handed over. Each has solar-powered pumping and a water treatment plant.

Because it runs on solar power, the facility does not depend on grid power or fuel. It is expected to give households clean water close to home and to reduce water-related illness.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

A public water point gives households a closer source of water. It can spare women and children long walks to streams or wells.

For work and income

Solar power means the facility does not depend on fuel or grid supply to pump water. Time saved on fetching water can go to farming, trade and school.
