About the project
The Model Health Centre in Mbo Local Government Area is a model primary health centre being built by the Akwa Ibom State Government. It is part of the plan under the ARISE Agenda of Governor Pastor Umo Eno to build a model primary health centre in each of the 31 LGAs of the state.
Construction was under way by April 2025, alongside similar centres in Oron and Okobo LGAs. Work is ongoing.
Model health centres under the programme are meant to give rural people good primary care close to home, including care for mothers and children, treatment of common illnesses and referral to bigger hospitals. They come with modern equipment and quarters for health workers.
When finished, the Mbo centre is expected to cut the distance residents travel for basic care and ease pressure on hospitals in Oron and Uyo.
