About the project

The Model Primary School at Afaha Itam is one of the 31 model primary schools built by the Akwa Ibom State Government, one in each Local Government Area. It stands at Afaha Itam in Itu Local Government Area and is also known as Model Primary School (PCN), Afaha Itam.

The school was built under Governor Pastor Umo Eno as part of the ARISE Agenda's focus on basic education. It was commissioned on Friday 27 June 2025. The Governor was represented by his Special Adviser on Labour Matters, Elder Udo Kerian Akpan.

The school has fully furnished classrooms, an ICT laboratory, a standard library, an assembly hall and a modern sick bay. It runs on solar power and has staff quarters, early childhood classes, a school field and a security post.

At the commissioning, the Governor asked the community to protect the facility and asked parents to see that it is not misused. The school is expected to give children in Itu a better place to learn.
