About the project

The Methodist Model Primary School at Ikot Abia Idem is a rebuilt primary school in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. It serves the Ikot Abia Idem and Ikot Ewang communities.

The school was founded in 1911. Over the years its buildings fell into poor condition, and the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Umo Eno rebuilt it as a model primary school. The contractor has not been published. The school is completed.

The rebuilt school has modern classrooms, ICT facilities, residential quarters for teachers, solar-powered electricity and a borehole. It was commissioned on Thursday, 17 September 2026, as part of activities marking the 39th anniversary of the state. The Governor was represented by Senator Emmanuel Ibokessien Essien, who attended the school as a pupil from 1962 to 1967.

The school is part of the plan to build model primary schools in all 31 local government areas. It is expected to give pupils in the area a safe and well-equipped place to learn, in line with the education pillar of the ARISE Agenda.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

The school gives children in the area a new place to learn in a fenced, secure compound.

For work and income

A school near home lowers what families spend on getting children to class. Basic education also prepares children for later training and work.
