About the project

The Youth Friendly Centre in Ikot Abasi is a planned centre for young people in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area. It is meant to give young people a dedicated space to learn, meet and build their futures.

The Akwa Ibom State Government is building ARISE Youth Friendly Centres in local government areas across the state under the ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno.

The centre is planned to offer ICT and digital skills, tailoring and fashion, barbing and hairdressing, sports and counselling. It is meant to serve young people in Ikot Abasi, school leavers looking to learn a trade, young people starting businesses, and trainers and counsellors.

The centre is expected to help young people gain skills, find work or start small businesses, and keep them engaged in safe and useful activities.

The centre is meant to give young people a safe and useful place to spend time. This is expected to reduce youth unrest in Ikot Abasi town once it opens.

For work and income

The centre is expected to train young people who can then start small businesses. Linking the centre to state programmes that give starter packs has been suggested. These are plans and not yet results.
