About the project

The Chairman's Lodge is the official residence of the Executive Chairman of Ikot Abasi Local Government Area. It is being built within the council premises at Ikpa Ibekwe, the headquarters of the local government.

The project is part of the Akwa Ibom State Government programme to build official lodges for local government chairmen across the state under the ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno. The groundbreaking took place on Wednesday, 14 January 2026. The Governor was represented by his Special Adviser on Cooperative and Rural Development, Mrs. Alice Ekpenyong. The Executive Chairman of Ikot Abasi, Hon. Ime Williamson Essien, and the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Obiowo Michael, attended with other stakeholders. Work is in progress.

The lodge is meant to make sure the council chairman lives among the people and can be reached easily for security and administrative matters. It serves the chairman, council staff, community leaders and residents who need decisions from the council.

The residence is expected to save the council the cost of rent and hotel stays. It will remain a permanent asset of the local government after each chairman leaves office. It is also meant to support accountability and stability in grassroots governance.
