About the project

The Peace Accord Road is a road of about 3.75km under construction in Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. It starts at Urua Inyang, the council headquarters, and passes Ikot Akata and Ikot Udo to the border, where it is to link with Abiaka in Oberete Ibime, Abia State.

The road is part of a peace deal between Ikot Udo in Ika and its neighbours in Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State, who have had a long-running boundary conflict. Under a truce reached in January 2026 with the two Deputy Governors, Senator Akon Eyakenyi of Akwa Ibom and Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu of Abia, each state is to build a road from its own side to the disputed point. Akwa Ibom State awarded the 3.7km stretch from Urua Inyang to Ikot Udo, while Abia State awarded a 12km road on its side. The communities agreed to let the work go on without obstruction.

The work is about 60 per cent complete. Side drains are being formed along the earth road.

When complete, the road is meant to link Ika with its Abia neighbours, open up trade and farming along the border, and help keep the peace by bringing the two sides closer together.
