About the project
The Ikot Esu to Azumini Road is an inter-state road of about 15km in Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. It runs from Ikot Esu through Otomo and other Ika villages to Azumini in Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State.
Before the work, the route was a muddy earth track. It has now been built and tarred. The project was started before Governor Umo Eno took office and was completed by his administration, in line with his view that government is a continuum.
The road was commissioned on 24 September 2025 by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, with Governor Umo Eno, as part of events marking the 38th anniversary of Akwa Ibom State. The 1.53km internal roads in Ikot Udom were commissioned on the same day.
The road links farmers in Ika to markets, children to schools and families to health care and trade. It makes it easier for farmers to reach their farms and take their produce to towns. It is also expected to cut travel time between Akwa Ibom and Abia States. It fits the ARISE Agenda's focus on rural roads and farming.
