About the project

This is the construction of an official residence for the Chairman of Ika Local Government Council. It is being built inside the Ika Local Government Secretariat at Urua Inyang, the council headquarters, and is funded by the Akwa Ibom State Government.

The project is part of a state plan to build an official residence for the council chairman in each of the 31 local government areas. The first of these was commissioned at Eket in May 2025. Governor Umo Eno has said that council chairmen must live among the people they serve if they are to work well and respond to their needs.

In Ika, foundation work was under way in March 2026. The residence is meant to let the chairman live and work in Urua Inyang, close to the people, and to give the council a permanent official home for its chairmen.
