About the project

The Youth Development Centre in Etinan is one of the youth centres Governor Pastor Umo Eno's administration is building in all 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom State. It is a place for young people to learn skills, start businesses and meet.

Construction was flagged off in October 2025, when the governor was represented in Etinan by the Commissioner for Water Resources and Sanitation, Dr Ubuo Ubuo. The centre has a creative centre, a training hall, an indoor games unit, a coffee centre and computer training rooms.

The centres are meant to train young people in skills such as ICT, fashion design and catering, and to support new businesses. When all 31 are working, they are expected to train about 1,000 young people in each council area every year. A three-month youth skills training at the Etinan centre opened for applications from 28 September to 5 October 2026.

The centre is expected to cut youth unemployment and reduce the drift of young people to the cities. It supports the ARISE Agenda's focus on jobs, wealth creation and youth skills.

The centre was commissioned on Tuesday, 15 September 2026, by Governor Pastor Umo Eno, represented by Senator Effiong Bob. It was the third state Youth Development Centre to be commissioned, after Oron.
