About the project

Ibom Paints is a state-owned paint factory at Ikot Ekan in Etinan Local Government Area. It was formerly the Peacock Paints factory, which the Akwa Ibom State Government bought and renamed Ibom Paints. The revamp of the factory was overseen by the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP).

The revamp restored the production lines with new equipment, built up a stock of raw materials for six to eight months of production, and brought in a digital business management system and a digital security system. The factory gate is in place and paint products are stored on site. The plant is certified by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON).

In June 2025, Governor Pastor Umo Eno placed the company under a state of emergency, dissolved its board and named Mr Ime Uwah as Sole Administrator. He also directed that contractors on state projects use Ibom Paints.

The factory makes architectural paints for buildings. Plans include industrial paints, marine coatings for the oil and gas industry, and car paints. The revamp is meant to create jobs for young people, keep money in the state and support the ARISE Agenda's goal of local industry.
