About the project

ARISE Compassionate Homes are free houses built by the Akwa Ibom State Government for widows, elderly people and families living in very poor conditions. In Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, 11 homes have been built under the scheme.

The homes are in communities across the LGA, including Obong Ntak, Uruk Ata Ikot Otok and Ikot Imonte. The home at Uruk Ata Ikot Otok, the sixth in Etim Ekpo, was handed over on 24 June 2025.

Under the scheme, each home is a two-bedroom bungalow given free of charge and fully furnished. It comes with a solar power system, its own water supply and an outside kitchen. Each beneficiary also receives a business grant of N500,000 to help them settle in and earn a living. Beneficiaries are chosen from the wards, starting with those living in the worst conditions.

In October 2025 a state team led by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, visited several of the homes during an inspection of projects in Etim Ekpo.

The homes are meant to give the poorest families safety, dignity and a decent place to live. The scheme is a key part of Governor Pastor Umo Eno's ARISE Agenda.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

Decent housing can greatly improve living conditions and give stability to vulnerable citizens and their families. The homes are a form of social protection.

For work and income

Each beneficiary receives a N500,000 business grant along with the home. This gives the household a way to start or support a small trade.
