About the project

This project covers emergency works on Afia Nsit Road in Eket Local Government Area, after part of the road collapsed. Heavy erosion washed away a section of the road on 8 September 2023, cutting off villages around Idung Eniang and Afia Nsit from Eket town.

The Akwa Ibom State Government acted quickly on the directive of Governor Pastor Umo Eno. The Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Uno Uno, inspected the site, and Bulletin Construction Company was moved in to rebuild the road.

The works included a 3-metre double cell culvert, a concrete drainage channel and 200 metres of restored road. The repair reconnected two parts of Eket, and the road is back in use.

Governor Umo Eno commissioned the works in May 2024, together with the reconstructed 3.3-kilometre Idua Road. At the event, he directed the contractor to extend the outfall drains and connect them to a river, so that the gully would not return. The project reflects the ARISE Agenda commitment to keep roads open and protect communities from erosion.
