Three roads in Shelter Afrique Estate

About the project

This project built three internal roads in Shelter Afrique Estate, one of the main residential districts of Uyo. They are Paul Ekpo Crescent at 1.8 kilometres, Emmanuel Ekon Avenue at 1.0 kilometre and Obot Emem Street at 0.8 kilometre.

The Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Pastor Umo Eno delivered the roads, which have been completed and commissioned. Together they give 3.6 kilometres of paved access inside the estate.

Shelter Afrique has been one of the parts of Uyo worst hit by flooding. The state's policy is that every road built or rebuilt in Uyo has drains on both sides linked to an outfall.

The roads are meant to give residents easier access to their homes, reduce flooding and improve living conditions in the estate. Further roads and flood control works in the estate are planned under a separate project.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

The roads ease movement within the estate. Residents can get to their homes, schools and places of worship more easily in all weather.

For work and income

Good estate roads let delivery vehicles, artisans and customers reach homes and shops. They also help homes in the estate hold their value.
