About the project

This project protects Government House, Uyo, from gully erosion and gives it a paved security road around its perimeter. For decades a gully had crept towards the complex, threatening the Governor's Lodge, the Deputy Governor's Lodge, the Uyo Correctional Centre and the Uyo Area Command of the Nigeria Police.

The Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Pastor Umo Eno is building more than two kilometres of security perimeter roads with long retaining walls to hold back the erosion and steady the ground. Wire-mesh fencing is being fixed on top of the retaining walls for security. Bulletin Construction is the contractor.

In January 2026 the stone base was largely complete and asphalt was expected within four to eight weeks. The project has not yet been commissioned.

The work is expected to stop the gully from eating into the Government House grounds and nearby public buildings, carry storm water away safely and give better access around the complex.
