About the project
This project rebuilt Ndiya Street and the roads around Akpan Andem Market, one of the main markets in Uyo. It was carried out by the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Pastor Umo Eno.
The work included road reconstruction and overlay, about 150 metres of internal market roads, drains, solar street lights, piped water and public toilets for traders and shoppers.
The project was flagged off and completed within the administration's first 100 days. Governor Eno commissioned it in September 2023 to mark his first 100 days in office.
The Governor chose the market streets because they drive small business and trade in the capital. The new roads, lights and drains are meant to make the market easier to reach, safer at night and cleaner, and to help traders do more business, in line with the ARISE Agenda's focus on enterprise.

Impact Analysis
An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.
Access and movement
Reconstructing Ndiya Street and adjoining roads, together with 150m of internal market roads, improves the physical route used by traders, shoppers, residents, delivery drivers, taxis and tricycles to enter and move around the market area.
Market activity and livelihoods
Akpan Andem is a major trading centre in Uyo. Better access supports the movement of goods and customers, while improved internal circulation can reduce delays for suppliers and traders moving stock within the market.
Public amenities and safety
Drainage helps carry stormwater away from the road and market environment. The reticulated water system and toilets support sanitation, while solar street lights improve visibility for people using the area after dark.
