About the project
This record covers the arrival of the first batch of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses ordered by the Akwa Ibom State Government. Governor Pastor Umo Eno received and inspected the 20 buses at Government House, Uyo, in mid 2026.
The 20 buses are the first part of an order of 50. They are meant to run public transport services across all 31 Local Government Areas, linking rural communities with the state capital.
The Governor thanked the Ministry of Transport, the supplier and the military for the safe delivery of the buses. He said the next steps were to complete the bus terminal, fit tracking devices and bring in a modern ticketing system. The buses will be based at the Ibom CNG Mass Transit Terminal being built in Uyo.
The scheme is meant to make travel easier, cheaper and safer, and to cut fuel costs and pollution by using gas instead of petrol or diesel, in line with the ARISE Agenda.
