About the project

The Oruk Anam Chairman's Official Residence is a four-bedroom house being built for the chairman of Oruk Anam Local Government Council. It is sited at the council headquarters in Ikot Ibritam, Oruk Anam Local Government Area. The building is planned to sit on about 2,500 square metres of land.

The Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Umo Eno is delivering the project, and Georgies Construction Company is the contractor. Construction was flagged off on Wednesday, 14 January 2026. Rt. Hon. Otobong Bob, Leader of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, performed the groundbreaking on behalf of the Governor. The council chairman, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sunday Festus Akpan, hosted the ceremony. A completion date has not been announced.

The design includes four bedrooms, a gym, a lounge, a workspace and other modern facilities. It is meant to serve as the official home of whoever holds the office of council chairman.

The residence is meant to let the chairman live inside the local government area he leads. This is expected to make council leadership more present and easier to reach, and to support closer grassroots governance and accountability. It fulfils a campaign promise by Governor Eno that local government chairmen should live within their councils, in line with the ARISE Agenda.
