About the project

This record covers Akwa Ibom State Government support for Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) at its main campus in Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

In May 2024 the state, working with TETFund, Africa Plus Partners Nigeria Limited, Family Homes and others, broke ground for a 1,600-capacity student hostel on the campus. It is a public private partnership. Governor Pastor Umo Eno, represented by the Commissioner for Education, said the hostel would give students a better place to live and study. On a tour of the campus, the Governor also pledged help to complete hostel projects and directed work on internal roads.

The 2026 state budget provides N400 million for design and preliminary works and N4 billion for the main building of staff residential quarters at the Ikot Akpaden campus.

The hostel and staff housing are expected to ease the shortage of accommodation on campus for students and staff.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

A hostel on campus is meant to give students a place to live close to their classes. More staff would be needed to teach the new programmes.

For work and income

Recruitment, if carried out, would create teaching and support jobs. A growing campus also brings customers to landlords, food sellers and transport operators in Ikot Akpaden.
