Solar-powered water project, Eka Offiong Market

About the project

This is a solar-powered water project at Eka Offiong Market in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area. It is completed and commissioned, and water from it is piped to 10 villages.

The project was delivered by the Akwa Ibom State Government. The pumps run on solar power, so the supply does not depend on the public grid or on fuel for a generator. This keeps running costs low and helps the water keep flowing.

The project gives clean water to traders and shoppers at the market and to households in the 10 villages it reaches.

It is meant to save residents long trips to fetch water, cut water-borne illness and support trade at the market, in line with the ARISE Agenda.
