About the project

The Midim Atan - Ikot Imonte Road is a 16-kilometre rural road that links communities in Essien Udim and Etim Ekpo Local Government Areas. It runs from Midim Atan through Ikot Inyang, Ikot Akpan Ekpenyong, Ikot Akpan and Etok Uruk Eshiet to Ikot Imonte. It includes a bridge with a 30-metre span. Because it crosses both LGAs, the same road appears in the Essien Udim record.

The road is being built by the Akwa Ibom State Government. Governor Pastor Umo Eno flagged it off in February 2024 at St. Paul's Primary School, Midim, in Essien Udim. Work is ongoing, and the road was among the projects inspected by a state team in October 2025.

The road and bridge are meant to connect the people of Essien Udim with their kin in Etim Ekpo. They will give farming villages a direct, all-season route to markets, schools and health centres.

The road is expected to cut travel time, ease the movement of farm produce, goods and people, and open up the rural communities along it. It fits the ARISE Agenda's push for rural development.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

The road and bridge are meant to give communities on both sides of the boundary a dependable link to each other. Better roads can improve access to schools, health facilities and other public services.

For work and income

The bridge expands the potential for economic contact between the two local government areas. The road can also ease the movement of agricultural produce and goods to market.
