About the project

Etim Ekpo Internal Roads Phase One is a set of rural roads in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, about 12.3 kilometres long in all. It is being built by the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Pastor Umo Eno.

The project has two main roads. The first is a 7.5-kilometre road from Utu Nsekhe through Ndot Ikot Eda, Uruk Ata Ikot Otok and Ikot Osukpong to Nto Obo. The second is a 4.8-kilometre road from Utu Ikot Nkor through Inen Ikot Okpo to Ikot Obioema.

Work is ongoing. The roads were among the projects inspected in October 2025 by a state team led by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah.

The roads link many villages with each other and with the area around Utu Ikot Nkor, where the new model primary health centre stands. They are expected to improve transport, give better access to homes, farms, markets and public facilities, and cut travel time. The project fits the ARISE Agenda's aim of opening up rural areas.

Impact Analysis

An assessment of the impact of these accomplishments on the people and communities.

For families and communities

These roads run through the villages where people live, so they are meant to make everyday trips easier. The 4.8km section starts at Utu Ikot Nkor, where the model primary health centre is located.

For work and income

The roads are expected to give better access to commercial facilities. Good village roads can help small traders and farmers in these communities reach buyers and bring in supplies.
