About the project

The Ofriyo to Eket Road and Bridge is a 2.49-kilometre dual carriageway with a 120-metre bridge. It links Ofriyo in Eket Local Government Area with Ikot Ekpene Udo in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, and it connects Nsit Ibom to Eket through Ofriyo. At the commissioning of Idua Road in May 2024, the Governor approved a bridge linking Ikot Ekpene Udo to Eket through the south end of that road.

The Akwa Ibom State Government is funding the project, and the contractor is Amitec Construction Company. The Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga, has described it as an alternative route of real economic value. Governor Pastor Umo Eno inspected the works in November 2025, urged the contractor to make full use of the dry season and asked that the road link up with Idua Road. In May 2026, more than 60 per cent of the bridge foundation work was done, with the road and drains also well advanced. The Governor has asked for the road and bridge to be ready by December 2026. Work is ongoing.

When complete, the road and bridge are expected to improve access to markets, schools and farms, and to make it easier to move farm produce and other goods to the towns. The Governor has said that opening up rural communities helps bring down the price of goods in the city.

The project is part of the ARISE Agenda rural roads programme. It has not yet been commissioned.
